What is a police officers procedure when informing a child that their parent died in a car accident?

I am asking this for my story.

I want to know if the officer stays with the child until a relative comes.

Would he ask the child if he had a relative nearby that he could contact?

Does the officer contact the relative?

It's not up to the police officer. A young child would be turned over to a social service agency, unless another parent or close relative arrived on the scene immediately. The social worker would then do whatever was necessary to contact the child's family, and might leave it to the relative to tell the child what happened. What is a police officers procedure when informing a child that their parent died in a car accident?
You're welcome.
